Here is the recipe I used for my chocolate chip cookies.
4 out 5 stars
1 hour, including baking time
Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar (I used 3/4 cup)
1 cup packed brown sugar (I used 3/4 cup)
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons hot water
½ teaspoon salt
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Dissolve baking soda in hot water. Add to batter along with salt. Stir in flour, chocolate chips. Drop by large spoonfuls onto ungreased pans.
Bake for about 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are nicely browned.
The instructions were easy to follow and yielded large soft cookies. I used 3/4 of the sugar they asked for and I found the cookies to be quite sweet, although I did not have semi-sweet chocolate chips and had to chop up milk chocolate.
The next time, I would make my cookies flatter instead of dropping them as balls onto the cookie sheet, as I found them to be too thick, reminding me more of a tea cake. I would also bake it for a little bit less time, leaving the middle slightly undercooked to achieve a chewier consistency.
